If you have the right amount of live rock and do regular water changes, you should not need any sort of filter in your tank. The general rule of thumb seems to be that roughly one 1-2 lbs of rock per gallon gives good filtration and sufficient hiding places for fish. Your LFS should have some or you could get some off ebay, or keep an eye out for someone breaking down their reef tank for some cheaper rock. The first thing you need to get is some good quality live rock. I think the 30x15x12 would make a good home for your two clowns and some nice corals :). With marine tanks, the bigger you can go is usually better. I have never had any experience with buying full set ups like the one you mentioned, but I can help you the best I can as far as what sort of equipment you will need :). Hey there :)! Good luck to both of you, this is such an amazing hobby :). Many many thanks in advance, the forum has been good to me so far, helping me care for my large Comet, Mr Fishy. I'm very concious that the fish are kept happy, thats why i have one goldfish in a 140 litre tank ! I would be looking to keep a pair of clowns and some live rock and coral i think, however this one seems to calculate out at 6.5 gallons that seems way too small. Ive been looking at the thread about the Orca tl450 and it looks good, however i found this on ebay, and wondered if it was going to be too small. I would be looking to buy most stuff second hand in order to keep the costs down ( prob off Ebay ). I'm a complete novice about marine equipment, so any advice on possible cost and exactly what i would need would be much appreicated. I have two 3 spare tanks in my garage i could use ,a 15x12x12 ( prob too small ) a 24x15x12 ( my old goldfish tank ) a 30x15x12 ( bought it the other day as it was cheap, never used it though ). ![]() Ĭan anyone advise on exactly what I would need ? Does anyone sell an all in one kit ? I am toying with the idea of starting a marine tank, i have a 4 foot tank with goldfish at the moment and quite fancy a small tank with a couple of clowns in it.
